hell-o I'm part of a group that takes care of a lighthouse on the delaware river in paulsboro NJ. It is call the Tinicum Light. I would like to know if the word is from the dialect of early native Americans that lived in this area south of Philadelphia Pa.? This could possibly go back as early as 1625 when the Swedes came to the area. & is "tini" a
word with a meaning of first?

Well im not lenni lenape (well i least i dont think so) but, i was doing a report for english and i had to do mine on the lenni lenape. Im 13 and lots of sites were hard to understand but This site was a GREAT referense for me. it helped me alot ....
I have Lenni Lenape in my blood also. My grandmother on my fathers side was. She married a Breiner I don't know what here last name was before. I am named after her Leneta and I was told she was named by a Idian chief or something like that my nick name is Lenni.
my great-grandmother was Lenni Lenape also..I don't know her name but she married a Graves in or around Illinois and my grandfather's name was Rosco Graves
I believe my great grand mother was a Lenni Lenape. She married my white great grand father, last name was Swift. I dearly hope this is true, but none of my aunts or uncles well talkabout her. All I can gather is that after my grand father, Norman Swift married my grand mother Mary Emma Chambers, then all of Norman's siblings were raise by them. I know that my great grand mother's first name was Sally or so she was called by the rest of the family. I am very proud to be part native american/Lenni Lenape. May the People live on our hearts forever.
